Airline Security Updates

No one logged in.

As you are probably aware, on 29th October the police identified a suspect package on board a UPS courier aircraft which had landed at East Midlands Airport en route from Cologne to Chicago.  Later during the morning police explosives experts identified that the device contained explosive material.  A similar device was located and identified in Dubai.  It was being transported by Fedex to Chicago.  It is understood that both devices originated in Yemen.

As a result of these incidents the DFT have issued new regulations with regard to airline security.  These include;

  • Suspension of all air cargo which has originated or transited from Yemen and Somalia
  • Suspension of the carriage of ink or toner cartridges on flights into, via or from the UK unless they originate from a known consignor – a regular shipper with security arrangements approved by the Department for Transport

With immediate effect all transport documentation must include the following security statement;

"We confirm that no part of this consignment originated in or has transited Yemen or Somalia and that the shipment does not contain ink or toner cartridges".

Please note that with immediate effect we will only accept consignments which comply with the above.  It is your responsibility to ensure that you comply with these new regulations and you will be held fully liable in the event on non-compliance.

Further details can be found on the DFT website
